1. How many students attend the Tenderfeet school?
There are currently 50 students.
 
2. When did Mama Margaret start the school?
The school began operations in the year 2000.

4. What are the costs of running the school?
The supplies for preparing student meals runs around $200 per month. The rent for the three classrooms plus the kitchen is $120 per month.

50 children are provided two meals per day. The meals are usually porridge in the morning and something like rice with vegetables for lunch.

To get an idea of the food supply costs, here is the breakdown for March 2007 ($194.18). The exact supplies needed and purchased will vary from month to month.

5. What is the school calendar?
Tenderfeet follows the same school calendar as public schools in Kenya, with a few small differences, explained below. There are three terms and three breaks.

Most Kenyan schools break for one month in April, August, and December, but Tenderfet usually breaks for one to two weeks. The children are still provided meals during the breaks, but no lessons are taught.

The three terms are:

  • January-March (one-two week break in April)
  • May-July (one-two week break in August)
  • September-November (one-two week break in December)
6. What are the days and hours of operation?
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM

9. What are the spiritual aspects of the Tenderfeet education?
Morning prayers and morning devotions with memory verses, choruses and Biblical morals given to the kids.

Though Bible lesons are taught, the school is open to all children, regardless of religious background.

 
10. What is the family situation of the current students?
  • 9 orphans (both parents are dead)
  • 21 children living with just the mother
  • 8 living with just a father
  • 12 are from vulnerable families but have both parents known to be living
