Ten for Tenderfeet: Questions and Answers

1. What is "Ten for Tenderfeet"?
It is a sponsorship program allowing sponsors to partner with the Tenderfeet Children's Center as it provides meals and education to the children of Kibera.

Sponsors partner with the school by sending $10 per month (or more if they wish) to help support the operations of the school.

2. How do I sign up?
Just email dax@lahash.net and you will be sent a welcome packet with instructions to get you started. Periodically, you will be updated on news from the school, receive pictures and learn some of the personal stories of children in the school.

As a Ten for Tenderfeet sponsor, you will be an important part of the Tenderfeet team and therefore you will be kept up on school happenings.

3. What is the monthly budget of the school?
The rent for the building is $120 per month. Electricity is expected to be $25 per month when it is installed, and food supplies run around $200 per month. More details can be found here.

4. Why have a sponsorship program for Tenderfeet if the expenses are already being covered?
At the present time, it's a struggle to keep the school going. From month to month, there is a scramble to make sure enough funds are available. This approach will be very difficult to sustain long-term.

The fact is Tenderfeet just needs more help right now.

5. What can my $10 a month do?
A lot! For instance, two students can be fed their school meals for a whole month because of your $10 donation.

The real power of your donation is that it is will be combined with other donations to keep the school going strong. Our goal is to cover the monthly budget of the school with the Ten for Tenderfeet program.

Currently, we still have quite a way to go to reach this goal. It's a great time to join the team!

6. Can I give more than $10 per month?
Absolutely. You may want to give a little extra from time to time, or designate an additional amount for a specific reason.

For example, during the Christmas season, you may want to send another $10 for the kids to have a nice treat for the holiday.

7. How does the money get to the school?
The money is wired directly to a bank where Mama Margaret picks it up. She keeps detailed records of all expenses and we will gladly make these records available upon request.

8. How much goes to the school itself?
95% goes directly to the school. The remaining 5% is necessary to cover Lahash (the non-profit charity that coordinates with Tenderfeet) administrative expenses, such as web hosting costs, stamps, office supplies, etc. These expenses are kept to a bare minimum.
